Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration: Sand Globes

Photos of my husband and son making sand globes, from the Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration, 2013, at Stinson Beach, California.  Instruction was provided.  Apparently, once these are made, they’ll keep indefinitely, as long as they are misted with water daily.  We won’t be able to find out… my son had fun using the ones they made as “snowballs”.  Most of the orbs were incorporated into … Continue reading Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration: Sand Globes

Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration: Beach Labyrinth

Photos of the labyrinth created in the sand, from the Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration, 2013, at Stinson Beach, California.  Usually, these are made for meditation, but that’s not how my five-year-old used it.  He had so much fun running around and around and around the winding path.  Either way, the design was appropriate for the celebration… I read somewhere that the Hopi considered labyrinths to … Continue reading Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration: Beach Labyrinth

Christmas at Ardenwood

This morning we attended another wonderful seasonal event at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont…. “Christmas at Ardenwood”.  We had a great time, even though it was raining – perhaps even more because of the wet weather.  I was frightened this would be a crowded event, as festivals here usually are.  I was pleasantly surprised that there were only ten cars in the parking lot when … Continue reading Christmas at Ardenwood

This Weekend! Harvest Festival, Ardenwood Historic Farm

Another of our favorite festivals is coming up this weekend… the Harvest Festival at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. This is such a fun festival for kids! The highlight of this event for us is the corn picking.  How often do kids get to head into the fields and hand-pick corn??  My son (then four) ran into the corn fields over and over again last … Continue reading This Weekend! Monarchs! Butterfly & Bird Festival, Coyote Hills, Fremont

This morning we attended the 13th Annual Butterfly and Bird Festival, held at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont.  We’ve attended this event the past two years, too, and this just may be my son’s favorite festival.  It’s kind of funny, since my son isn’t usually into doing crafty type activities, but he absolutely LOVES the ones offered at this festival. Maybe it’s the theme?  … Continue reading Monarchs! Butterfly & Bird Festival, Coyote Hills, Fremont

Nectar Garden Fun, Coyote Hills

Nectar Garden Fun Day As many of you already know, we’re in the process of creating a butterfly garden in our backyard.  So I couldn’t resist attending the Nectar Garden Fun Day with my son yesterday morning at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont.  This is one of my favorite parks in the East Bay, with a boardwalk through the marsh, hills to climb, hiking … Continue reading Nectar Garden Fun, Coyote Hills

Earth Day 2012

How do you plan to celebrate Earth Day this weekend? Assuming my son is feeling better (he has a horrible sore throat today), on Saturday we will head to Crissy Field in San Francisco for Earth Stroll 2012.  Sounds fun… “Adventurous activities and games, hosted by some of the Bay Area’s leading environmental organizations, will engage the hearts, minds and bodies of the whole family. … Continue reading Earth Day 2012

Tartan Day Scottish Fair, Ardenwood Historic Farm

Sunshine and warmth… much appreciated after a week of storms! And a beautiful day to celebrate our Scottish heritage. We attended the Tartan Day Scottish Fair, held today at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. The bagpipes, the fiddlers, the people walking around in traditional dress, the highland games, and historic reenactments were all interesting, but the highlight for my son was the Children’s Glen. To … Continue reading Tartan Day Scottish Fair, Ardenwood Historic Farm

This Saturday… Sunol Wildflower Festival!

One of our favorite Bay Area festivals, the Sunol Wildflower Festival, is being held this Saturday, April 14th.  We attended this the last two years, and my son (then age 2 and 3) and I both loved it.  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to attend this year, but I’ve been telling everyone I know to check it out.  This is not a kid-only event.  The … Continue reading This Saturday… Sunol Wildflower Festival!
